Often referred to as one of the best vantage points to view Everest, Pikey Peak is named after the local Sherpa deity who represents the sky leering over nature. A newly introduced trekking route, the Pikey Peak Trek allows you to enjoy close-up views of the Everest Peak and enjoy the lower Khumbu region's landscape that supports the ethnic lifestyle of the local people.
The Khumbu region is filled with many facets of culture and natural beauty. The river valleys are flanked over by the Everest massif and the region is visited by thousands of trekkers every year. However, despite the region's popularity among trekkers, Pikey Peak Trek presents an alternate route to trek through. It is less-crowded and also presents the best breath-taking views of the Himalayas without the hassles of over-crowding.
A solitary trekking trip, the Pikey Peak trail follows the hidden settlements of the region to take you to sites like Jhapre and the Pikey Base Camp among other isolated and rarely-visited villages. It is a trip filled with wonderful and un-trodden landscapes filled with alpine woodlands and untouched pastures. The trip is perfect for anyone looking for an alternate route in the Khumbu to view the Everest peaks in a short amount of time without necessarily following the renowned trekking path.
The pikey peak trek begins with a scenic drive heading towards the village of Dhap from Kathmandu. Enjoying the pleasant display of natural beauty, we head over to Jhapre. The old-age village is well known for its local monasteries and allows for a pleasant cultural experience. Accompanied by the Himalayas, the rugged trail ascends towards the Pikey Peak Base Camp crossing dense rhododendron forests en route. Conquering the summit of Pike Peak (4,065m) the next day, we descend towards Chaula Kharka for a well-deserved rest. Dropping down to Shivalaya, the final stretch of our Pikey Peak trek takes us back to the capital city, Kathmandu.
